The Barna Group released a new study last week. This study has been tracking trends since 1994. Some interesting numbers:
> One out of every three adults (33%) is classified as "unchurched." (Meaning they have not attended a religious service of any type in the past six months.) That's an estimated 73 million adults.
> When teenagers and children are added, the total jumps to roughly 100 million Americans.
> If the unchurched population of the U.S. were a nation of its own, it would be the eleventh most populated nation on earth.
> Included among the unchurched is an estimated 13 to 15 million born again adults and children.
Tyndal House Publishers almost simultaneously released a book called Jim & Casper Go to Church that parallels Barna's findings. We haven't read it yet, but it sure sounds interesting.
